Researchers have found that drinking three cups of coffee every day can cut down one's risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
The findings, published by the Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee, states:
Epidemiological evidence shows drinking three to four cups of coffee per day can lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 25 percent compared to consuming none or less than two cups per day.
The research affirms that with every additional cup of coffee consumed every day, drinkers cut down the relative risk of developing diabetes by 7-8 percent.
All thanks to caffeine, a compound found in coffee, that is known to boost metabolism and increases energy expenditure, thereby lowering the risk of diabetes. However, a few researchers claim that even decaffeinated coffee offers good protection against this lifestyle threat.
Additionally, some scientific evidence states that coffee contains components that is known to boost insulin sensitivity by modulating inflammation, affecting hormones, and reducing iron stores.
