Rio olympics ends with spectacular visual feast

The Rio Olympic, 2016 finally came to and end with a spectacular carnival-inspired closing ceremony.The Olympic flag was handed over to Tokyo as the hosting country for the next Olympic in 2020.

The colourful ceremony, lasted almost three hours, celebrated Brazil's arts and was held in a wet Maracana.

Among the highlights were Tokyo's impressive showcase and a vibrant carnival parade.

International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach said, "These were a marvellous Olympics, in a marvellous city. Over the last 16 days a united Brazil inspired the world, in difficult times for all of us, with its irresistible joy for life."

Bach officially closed the Games of the 31st Olympiad after 16 days of competition, featuring 11,303 athletes from 206 nations and a refugee team. 2016 Olympic will always be remembered by the Indians as well.

The talented shuttler, P.V. Sindhu from Hyderabad, made history in badminton singles by clinching the silver medal, for the first time ever in the history. Wrestler Sakshi Malik, won India’s first medal in the Rio Olympics.

Sakshi, became the first woman wrestler in India to win an Olympic bronze medal in the 58kg freestyle. Se carried the flag for Indian in the closing ceremony.

This Olympic made many histories. Usain Bolt has completed the historic triple treble of Olympic gold medals. He won the men’s 4x100m relay with Jamaica on Friday night in Rio. The sprinter has now won golds in the 100m, 200m and relay at each of the last three Olympic Games.

Brazil’s long-nursed dreams of a first Olympic football gold medal were stretched thin, wrung out a little more and then finally delivered via Neymar’s winning kick in the decisive penalty shootout against Germany. Brazil’s Games had its own most vital moment, a gold medal in the only sport, that really mattered this nation, with any concerted passion. After the match, He declared that he would be giving up the captaincy. He said, "Today I have become a champion, and I give up the captain's armband.”

The U.S. swimmer, Michael Phelps took home another five golds and one silver this summer, raising his Olympic total to a remarkable 23 golds and 28 medals overall.

One of the biggest cheers of the night came when Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe appeared dressed as computer game character Super Mario, rising out of a huge green pipe in the stadium.

The ceremony, featured the parade by the athletes and a dramatic extinguishing of the Olympic flame.
