Apple is reportedly developing a new application for iOS aimed at keeping users informed about games available on Apple Arcade and the App Store. This anticipated gaming hub is expected to integrate with a user's Game Center profile, providing insights into friends' activities, as well as showcasing challenges, gaming events, leaderboards, and additional content. Furthermore, there are indications that Apple may introduce a feature enabling users to communicate with their Game Center friends through FaceTime or iMessage. According to a report from 9to5Mac, which cites sources familiar with the situation, this new gaming hub will operate independently of the App Store and will feature various sections, including a "Play Now" tab that offers editorial content and game recommendations.
Currently, games are listed within the App Store, while a user's gaming achievements are displayed in the Game Center on iOS. The new application is expected to leverage a user's Game Center profile to present game-specific achievements and leaderboards for friends. Similar to platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store, this proposed gaming hub could provide updates on new events and features within games. It is important to note that the App Store already allows developers to promote new features and in-game events. In addition to game details, Apple's dedicated gaming app may facilitate communication among friends via iMessage and FaceTime, although it remains unclear if these interactions will be restricted to Game Center friends. The rumored gaming hub is anticipated to support both App Store games and titles available through Apple Arcade, the company's subscription service that offers access to numerous games without advertisements or in-app purchases. As with other Apple software currently under development, official confirmation from the company is unlikely until the app is officially launched.
