An inmate of Pinal County escaped from prison on Friday to be with his love on Valentine's Day. However he was arrested after over three hours of his escape.
Joseph Andrew Dekenipp was taken back into custody in Coolidge, the location of the Pinal County Adult Detention Center. The 40-year-old inmate was headed towards Gallopin’ Goose Saloon & Grill to meet his valentine on Feb. 14.
Jail officials caught up with the inmate at the Gallopin’ Goose Saloon & Grill when his date had barely arrived. Dekenipp would be given medical treatment before being taking him back to the county jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office statement.
The lovelorn man had apparently scaled 12-feet of fence, crawled through razor wire, and also scaled a wire-topped fence to be able to escape from the county jail premesis.
According to reports, Dekenipp told other inmates that he was heart brokes due to the separation from his girlfriend. Jail authorities are investigating if other inmates had a role in his escape.
Dekenipp was arrested on Jan. 10 and has been in jail since then. He is under custody for trafficking in stolen property, suspected vehicle theft, unlawful flight, theft and driving a vehicle with suspended license.
The bond for his bail was set at $5,000. But now his release is unlikely to be signed by a judge due to an escape charge as well. So much for broken heart and long separation. Now the couple would be staying apart for a longer period.
