A $150,000 costume – made Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa dress, worn by actress Lupita Nyong’o at the Oscars is stolen from the hotel in which she was staying.
The 6,000 natural white pearl studded dress was taken from a London Hotel in west Hollywood when Nyong’o was out of the room.
The theft seems to be executed in a planned manner.
Nyong’o, 31, last year’s winner as Best Supporting Actress for director Steve McQueen’s acclaimed movie about slavery, was there when investigators arrived.
Investigators believe the gown was stolen between 8 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They said that there was no forced entry and nothing else was taken from the room. It is unclear if the dress was insured.
“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has checked the key-card data to determine who had access to the room during that window”, said Lt. Michael White, detective supervisor at the West Hollywood station.
“That’s what they’ve done for most of the day — interview people who might have had access to the room,” said White. “So far it’s employees.”
Nyong’o had changed to another outfit before heading to the Vanity Fair post-Oscars party Sunday night.
White stated that the suspects might have found it hard to unload the designer dress.
