President Trump’s campaign style rally was largely peaceful except here and there protesters had minor tiffs with supporters, hundreds of people has attended the event and wanted to get into the rally.
This rally was the first political event after his comments about events in Charlottesville. President and vice president had arrived as planned at phoenix convention center for rally, president came after his brief stop at Yuma. Vice president Mike Pence has arrived first on stage to welcome president.
The protesters and supporters were engaged in minor scuffles and shouting matches, and half dozen people has showed up at rally with military rifles and fatigues to join other protesters.
Members of Redneck Revolt has described themselves as an anti-fascist group who were offended by presidents comments after violence in Virginia. A man named John Brown carried an AK-47, he said he was here to protect anti-trump protesters. It wasn’t much of an issue as Arizona allows people to carry weapons openly.
The crowd engaged in to verbal matches even though the police kept two groups on opposite sides of road with barricades and officers. As per the statement released by police at 7:15 p.m there were no arrests from the event.
The protesters and supporters were carrying signs with them, and Tuscon Vice Mayor Regina Romero told in a press conference on Tuesday morning that “The groups refuse to idly stand by while trump destroys everything America stands for”.
Romero said, “we need to raise our voice against Trump’s racism, assault on civil rights, horrific border wall and attacks on public lands, our environment and working families”.
One of the trump supporters at the event said, “It’s been in my bucket list ever since he became president, I wished I had attended one of his campaign rallies and I even wanted to go to inauguration. And truthfully It was protesters that kept me away”said king man resident Diane Treon.
She also said that she wishes “protesters would be little more peaceful instead of violently rioting, which is happened in so many places” but isn’t overly worried. I don’t think the phoenix police are going stand down and throw us out in wind, “ I really think they are going to keep us safe”.
Trump’s this visit was controversial as this was his first political meet after his comments on Virginia violence and also mayor Greg Stanton called on the president to not hold this rally here soon after the violence in Virginia.
