Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, visited Ukraine, becoming the first Indian prime minister to do so. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and they warmly greeted each other. The two leaders are set to have both individual and group-level discussions, focusing on finding a negotiated resolution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Modi arrived in Kyiv by train after visiting Poland, completing the second and final leg of his two-nation trip. This visit comes about six weeks after Modi's high-profile trip to Russia, where he held extensive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, primarily aimed at ending the conflict. Modi previously met Zelensky in June on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy's Apulia, where he conveyed India's commitment to supporting a peaceful solution and the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the Ukraine conflict. Modi also expressed India's belief in a "human-centric" approach to finding a solution to the conflict.

He also told Zelensky that India believes in a "people-centric" approach to resolving the conflict in Ukraine. At this meeting, the President of Ukraine invited the Prime Minister to Kyiv. Earlier on Thursday, he held talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and said the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia were "deeply worrying" and that "dialogue and diplomacy" were the way to restore peace. “India firmly believes that no problem can be solved on the battlefield. In every crisis, the loss of innocent lives is the biggest challenge for all of humanity," he said.
