India is a storehouse of software, services talent and language skills through which, we have been able to develop a strong leadership team here. China, on the other hand, has a far more favourable industrial policy which is missing in India,” says Dell.
Dell Inc Chairman and CEO Michael Dell while answering a question, “Between India and China, both emerging economic powerhouses, which is stronger?” said that “It is not India or China, but India and China, mentioning that both countries are amazing growth stories as seen in the past few decades. In conversation with a Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) gathering, Dell said, “Both India and China are powering economic strengths and enormous markets. India is a storehouse of software, services talent and language skills through which, we have been able to develop a strong leadership team here. China, on the other hand, has a far more favourable industrial policy which is missing in India,” adding that India must also address issues of infrastructure, friendly tax regime and so on. Referring to the importance of MSMEs, Dell said that most of the growth in jobs stem from these fast emerging companies.
“It (MSMEs) is the place where new technologies tend to start and get integrated. In the last ten years alone, big technologies began in small companies and were later adopted by the larger ones,” he said. He added that newer trends such as social media, if developed, could act as the catalyst for growth of companies. “Social media is the highest ROI channel for companies to connect with their customers and suppliers. If manufacturers are not engaged with them online, it is at their own peril,” he said. He added that cloud computing could also act as an accelerator of time as information can be valued and assessed much faster. Going further, between the tablet and the PC, Dell opined that though the former conducts a lot more operations in a lesser space, people would choose a PC, should they prefer a better internet and visual experience on a larger screen. Tablets, he felt, would remain as additional devices.
