Seven people were killed and over 80 seriously injured as a series of explosions rocked the heart of Bihar's capital city, Patna, shortly before BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was set to address his Hunkar rally in Gandhi Maidan yesterday.
The first explosion set off around 9.30am inside a washroom on platform no.10 towards the Karbigahiya end of Patna Junction. This was followed by six more blasts in quick succession near Udyog Bhawan at 11.40 a.m. followed by another blast in front of Regent Cinema in 12.05 p.m. Four more blasts — one near old Gandhi statue in 12.10 p.m, another near twin tower in 12.15 p.m., a one near SBI main office in 12.20 p.m, and one near children's park in 12.45 p.m. sent shock-waves across the city..
The blasts were apparently triggered by low-intensity improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Four unexploded IEDs were recovered — two near Gandhi statue and two near Twin Tower, that were later defused by the bomb squad.
NSG and NIA have launched a massive investigation to nab the guilty. Two suspected terrorists has been detained and one possible mastermind behind the blasts has also been arrested, but hunt is on for more leads on the blasts.
