WhatsApp is currently working on multi-device capability for a single account very soon and the limited public beta test is currently going on. The users will have an access to four other non-phone devices simultaneously. The users will get a chance to access the messages on the other devices even after the main phone is switched off or even when the battery is dead. For now, the mobile phone happens to be the primary device for WhatsApp connectivity which will not happen anymore after this feature gets rolls out from WhatsApp. As of now, WhatsApp is linked to one account number and it works on the basis of the phone.
The users can now access WhatsApp on their desktop through WhatsApp web and it needs permission from the phone to continue. In a blog post, Facebook revealed that they are in plans for multi-device support along with same privacy and security through end-to-end encryption. WhatsApp developed several new technologies for end-to-end encryption. The architecture and design will be new. The feature will be rolled out soon and it is in the testing phase for now. Some new features too will be added once the testing process comes to an end. It is unclear if all the Android users and iOS users will have an access to the feature. WhatsApp will also continue to use a scalable Sender Key encryption scheme from the Signal Protocol.
