Phoenix police suspect that street racing could be the cause of the deadly crash on Monday. The violent crash led to the shut down of a busy street.
According to witnesses a Nissan Sentra and a 1964 or 1965 Chevrolet pickup truck were racing, said police. The Nissan lost control and was pushed against oncoming traffic. It went and hit a Ford F350 pickup truck, which fell on top of the Nissan, leadining to death of one person.
The Ford F350 pickup truck had a father and his daughter. They were wearing seat belts and escaped with non-life threatening injuries.
The Chevrolet pickup truck fled the scene and headed southwards on 16th Street via Southern Avenue, said Sgt. Trent Crump. Police is in the look out for the Chevrolet.
Police believe that the racing vehicles had twice the speed limit in an area where the maximum permissible limit is 40 miles per hour.
