Arizona power plants’ goals to save the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions looks less stringent compared to the ones proposed originally. But it will take time to review how exactly it would impact the state, says officials.

On Monday, a plan was released by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) aiming to cut glasses that trap heat. The heat-trapping glasses are believed to contribute by 32% across the nation to global warming by 2030.

Stringent proposals last year

The last year’s original proposal of US Environmental Protection Agency included cutting of emissions in Arizona power plants by over half from 2012 levels. This was later changed to 34% cutting to 1,031 pounds per megawatt hour.

Arizona wanted to come up with its self plan to meet the limits of emission so that the state’s interest could be protected. The state have an year to submit plans of implementation to Washington and extra two years to comply with them.

The Coronado Generation Station in St. Johns, the H. Wilson Sundt Generating Station in Tucson, the Springerville Generating Station, the Cholla Power Plant in Joseph City and the Gila River Power Station in Gila Bend are the plants that would probably get affected by the final plan.
