ASU created history as it went on to cinch its seventh consecutive victory over rival Arizona on the Territorial Cup held on Saturday night, defeating the opponents by 58-21.

The No. 12 Sun Devils (10-2, 8-1 Pac-12) will face No. 8 Stanford on the next match.

A few months back, Stanford quashed ASU 42-28 at Stanford Stadium. The new contest is billed as one of ASU’s bigger games in recent memory. The past two Pac-12 champions have hosted the title game.

“The advantage of playing at home -- you can’t put a price tag on that,” ASU coach Todd Graham said. “It is huge. There is no question we play our best football out here.”

“To secure it, ASU first had to knock off Arizona, which was feeling confident after its Nov. 23 rout of then-No. 5 Oregon. In front of 72,542 at sold-out Sun Devil Stadium, the Sun Devils took control early, held off a brief Arizona surge, then pulled away in the second half, setting off a celebration,” AZ Central correspondent wrote.
