A Peoria high school student was struck by a car while trying to cross the Northern Avenue recklessly Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The 14-year-old boy is a student of Raymond S. Kellis High School. Sustained non-life threatening normal injures in this accident by an eastbound sedan near 91st and Northern avenues, police said, but he narrowly avoided being hit by another car when he fell after the collision.
The 55 year-old-woman who was driving the car stopped and cooperated with polices, the student was sent to a children's hospital, said Amanda Jacinto, a Peoria police spokeswoman.
After the boy struck, he fell into the left-turn lane on Northern Avenue where a westbound vehicle was entering, but the vehicle stopped just in time and made minimal contact with the student, Jacinto said.
The damaged or disturbed area closed Northern Avenue between 87th and 91st Avenues while police investigated the scene.
The locals previously asked the city to put a traffic-control signal at the intersection where this accident took place.
