Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on Monday afternoon stated that the 12-year-old boy had made up the story about an attempted kidnapping. The teenaged boy admitted to lying about the incident in the West Valley on Monday morning.
The boy had stated that he was approached by two people in a truck at around 8:10 a.m, said Deputy Joaquin Enriquez, a Sheriff's Office spokesman.
He told detectives that he was walking towards his bus stop near Citrus Road and Missouri Avenue, added Enriquez.
Later, on being questioned by detectives during interrogation the 12-year-old boy admitted that he had made up the story of kidnapping.
A news conference was held by Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Monday night to give more details about the hoax kidnapping.
